In some countries health care is on really low level. If you are unlucky enough to live in one of these, you have symptoms of hypothyroidism and your doctor refuse to order required tests - change doctor. Thyroid hormones control everything in our body. Temperature, digestion, mood, brain functions, feeding of cells, skin functions, hair, fingernails... everything. As we see, lack of balance here will lead to the general disfunction. Some doctors might fail to recognize hypothyroidism. Digestion problems and ringing in ears? Neurosis, next patient please!
Some symptoms: Basicly, the cheapest way to diagnose hypothyroidism is a test of the TSH level in blood, if it's increased - we found what's responsible for. If not - there is a lot of thyroid diseases that do not affect TSH. It s time to check the FT3 and FT4 hormones, maybe T3 and T4 too. Their levels are in norm? Probably this's not hypothyroidism, but there are a few diseases, for example some kind of inflammations that can block the work of the hormones, so we have the excellent level of them in blood, yet still they cannot do their work properly. This is really rare case, sometimes doctors might use very low doses of hormones to check if patient show any improvement. Major cause of hypothyroidis is plain lack of iodine, then Hashimoto type diseases (our own defence system start fight against thyroid), and all kind of tumors, usually not fatal ones. |
